Kanban vs List Views

Choose the view that fits your team’s workflow when managing incidents.

Upstat supports two ways to visualize incidents: a Kanban View and a List View. Both show the same underlying data, but each emphasizes different workflows and use cases.

Kanban View

The Kanban View is ideal for teams that prefer a visual, drag-and-drop interface. Incidents appear as cards and are grouped into columns based on their current status.

Use Kanban view when:

  • You want to see progress at a glance
  • You’re actively triaging or managing incidents
  • You prefer working with incidents in lifecycle stages (e.g., Identified → Investigating → Mitigated → Resolved)

Features:

  • Drag-and-drop to update incident status
  • Status columns are customizable per project
  • Cards show key info: title, severity, lead, labels, and timestamps
  • Supports filtering by status, severity, labels, or lead

Kanban view is best for real-time incident coordination and keeping the whole team aligned during response.

List View

The List View displays incidents in a tabular format with sortable columns. It’s ideal for analysis, reporting, and scanning through multiple incidents quickly.

Use List View when:

  • You want to sort or filter incidents by multiple criteria
  • You’re reviewing past incidents or preparing reports
  • You need compact detail density across many rows

Features:

  • Column sorting (e.g., by severity, status, or last update)
  • Advanced filtering options
  • Inline quick actions (acknowledge, change status, assign lead)
  • One-click access to incident details and timelines

List View is best for post-incident review, metrics-driven teams, and analysts managing many incidents.

Switching Views

You can switch between Kanban and List views at any time using the view toggle in the top-right corner of the Incidents page. Your selection is remembered per user and project.
