Creating Status Pages

Create professional status pages through an intuitive editor interface with live preview and real-time configuration updates.

Starting Your Status Page

Navigate to the Status Pages section to see your existing pages. Click the Create Status Page button to launch the status page editor.

The editor opens with a split-view interface:

  • Left Panel - Configuration tabs for building your page
  • Right Panel - Live preview showing real-time changes

This design lets you see exactly how your status page will appear to visitors as you configure it.

The Editor Interface

Configuration Tabs

The editor organizes configuration into four main tabs:

Basics - Core page information and perspective selection
Branding - Visual customization and theming options
Content - Entity selection and organization
Settings - Advanced configuration options

Live Preview

The preview panel updates instantly as you make changes, showing:

  • Page title and description
  • Entity status displays (showing “Operational” or other states)
  • Visual theme and branding changes
  • Layout and content organization

Sample entities appear in the preview to demonstrate how your actual catalog entities will display once connected.

Basics Configuration

Page Information

Start by defining your page’s core details:

Title - The main heading displayed at the top of your status page
Example: “Platform Status” or “API Services Health”

Description - Supporting text that explains what this status page monitors
Example: “Real-time operational status for our core platform services”

Choosing a Perspective

Select how your status page will present information:

Traditional Perspective
“Display multiple services and systems on a single status page. Choose which entities to include and organize them in sections.”

Use this for:

  • Company-wide status pages
  • Multi-service dashboards
  • Infrastructure overviews

Entity Based Perspective
“Create a dedicated status page that represents one specific entity from your catalog, showing all its relationships, dependencies, and operational context.”

Use this for:

  • Product-specific pages
  • Single service deep-dives
  • Detailed dependency views

Your perspective choice determines how the Content tab will organize entity selection.

Content Selection

The Content tab connects your status page to catalog entities. Here you can:

  • Browse available entity types from your catalog
  • Select specific entities to display
  • Organize entities based on your chosen perspective

If you see “No entity types found in catalog” or “No entities found in catalog”, you’ll need to first configure entities in your service catalog before they can appear on status pages.

Once entities are available, you can select which ones to include and they’ll automatically appear in your status page with real-time status updates.

Branding Customization

The Branding tab offers extensive visual customization options to match your organization’s identity. Configure colors, fonts, logos, and layout styles to create a cohesive brand experience.

Changes appear immediately in the live preview, helping you perfect the visual design before publishing.

Advanced Settings

The Settings tab provides additional configuration options for advanced use cases, including access controls, custom domains, and integration settings.

Working with Live Preview

The live preview is your most important tool while creating a status page:

  1. Real-Time Updates - Every change reflects instantly
  2. Sample Data - Preview entities demonstrate layout and styling
  3. Responsive View - See how your page adapts to different screen sizes
  4. Accurate Representation - What you see is exactly what visitors will see

The preview may show sample entities like “Fake Entity 1”, “Fake Entity 2”, etc., all displaying “Operational” status to help visualize your page structure before connecting real catalog entities.

Best Practices

Start Simple

Begin with basic configuration and gradually add complexity. The live preview helps you understand each change’s impact.

Plan Your Perspective

Choose your perspective based on your audience’s needs. Traditional works well for overview pages, while Entity Based excels for detailed service views.

Test Before Publishing

Use the live preview to verify all elements display correctly. Check different states and scenarios to ensure your page handles various operational conditions.

Connect Your Catalog

Status pages work best when integrated with a well-organized service catalog. Invest time in properly structuring your entities for optimal status page presentation.

Next Steps

After creating your status page:

  1. Review in Preview - Ensure all elements appear as intended
  2. Configure Entities - Connect the appropriate catalog entities
  3. Apply Branding - Customize the visual appearance
  4. Set Access Controls - Configure who can view your page
  5. Publish - Make your status page available to stakeholders

Your status page will then automatically maintain itself, pulling real-time data from your catalog and incident management systems.
