Holiday Calendars

Add country-specific holiday calendars to display public holidays in your project calendar.

Prerequisites

  • Access to a project where you want to manage calendars

1. Open Holiday Calendar Management

  1. Navigate to Calendar in the sidebar
  2. Click the menu button (three dots)
  3. Select Manage Holiday Calendars

2. Select Holiday Calendars

In the dialog:

  1. Use the search box to find calendars by country name
  2. Click calendars to select them (selected calendars are checked)
  3. Select multiple calendars if needed (e.g., US + UK for distributed teams)

Available calendars include country-specific holidays for most countries worldwide.


3. Save Your Selection

Click Save to apply your selections. The system will:

  1. Enable the selected calendars for your project
  2. Sync holiday data automatically
  3. Display holidays on your project calendar

Result

Holidays from your selected calendars now appear on the project calendar. Holiday events display alongside maintenance windows for unified planning.


Managing Enabled Calendars

Viewing Enabled Calendars

Open the calendar menu to see currently enabled calendars listed with checkmarks.

Toggling Calendars

To temporarily hide a calendar’s holidays without removing it:

  1. Open the calendar menu
  2. Click on a calendar name to toggle it
  3. Disabled calendars won’t show holidays until re-enabled

Removing Calendars

To remove a calendar:

  1. Open Manage Holiday Calendars
  2. Uncheck the calendar you want to remove
  3. Click Save

Syncing Holidays

Holiday data is synced automatically, but you can trigger a manual sync:

  1. Open the calendar menu
  2. Select Sync Holidays
  3. Wait for the sync to complete

Use manual sync if:

  • Holidays aren’t appearing as expected
  • You recently added new calendars
  • You want to ensure you have the latest data

Available Holiday Calendars

Upstat provides holiday calendars for countries worldwide, including:

Region Example Countries
North America United States, Canada, Mexico
Europe United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain
Asia Pacific Australia, Japan, Singapore, India
Latin America Brazil, Argentina, Colombia

Each calendar includes national public holidays for that country.


Multi-Region Teams

For teams spanning multiple countries:

  1. Add holiday calendars for each relevant country
  2. All holidays appear on the same calendar view
  3. Plan schedules around combined holiday dates

Example: A team with members in the US and UK would add both calendars to see Thanksgiving, Christmas, and UK Bank Holidays together.


Holiday Display

Holidays appear on the calendar with:

  • Holiday name as the event title
  • Single-day events on their date
  • Distinct styling from maintenance events

Planning Around Holidays

Before scheduling maintenance:

  1. Check the calendar for upcoming holidays
  2. Avoid scheduling during major holidays
  3. Account for reduced staffing

On-Call Awareness

Holiday calendars help with on-call planning:

  • Identify dates with potential reduced coverage
  • Plan substitutions around holidays
  • Coordinate across regional teams

Annual Planning

Review holidays for the year:

  1. Navigate through months to see upcoming holidays
  2. Identify clustering of holidays (e.g., end-of-year)
  3. Plan major initiatives accordingly
