Maintenance Overview

Schedule maintenance windows to communicate planned downtime and track scheduled service work.

Maintenance windows in Upstat let you document planned service work with defined start and end times. They appear in the project calendar and help teams coordinate scheduled downtime.

What Are Maintenance Windows?

Maintenance windows represent periods of planned work that may affect service availability:

  • Scheduled deployments
  • Infrastructure updates
  • Database migrations
  • System upgrades
  • Routine maintenance tasks

By creating maintenance windows, you document when work is expected to occur and can track its status through completion.

Key Concepts

Maintenance Statuses

Each maintenance window has a status indicating its current state:

Status Description
Planned Scheduled for a future time
Active Currently in progress
Completed Finished successfully
Cancelled No longer happening

Time Windows

Each maintenance has a defined start and end time:

  • Start Time: When the maintenance work begins
  • End Time: When the maintenance work is expected to complete

Times are specified in your local timezone.

How Maintenance Works

  1. Schedule maintenance with a title, description, and time window
  2. Track status as it progresses from Planned to Active to Completed
  3. View maintenance on the project calendar alongside other events
  4. Update status or timing as plans change

Calendar Integration

Maintenance windows appear in the project calendar:

  • View upcoming and past maintenance at a glance
  • See maintenance alongside holiday calendars
  • Plan around scheduled work periods

See Calendar Overview for more on calendar features.
