Scheduling Maintenance

Schedule upcoming service work to keep users informed and reduce confusion.

Schedule maintenance windows to notify users about planned downtime or service work.

Creating a Maintenance Event

To schedule planned maintenance:

  1. Go to Status Pages → Maintenance
  2. Click New Maintenance Event
  3. Fill out the required fields:
    • Title – Summary of the maintenance window
    • Start and End Time – Defines when the maintenance begins and ends
    • Status Impact – Choose severity (e.g., Partial, Major)
    • Catalog Entities – Select affected services (optional)
    • Description – Explain what the maintenance involves
    • Notify Subscribers – Sends notifications at start, updates, and resolution (optional)
    • Suppress Alerts – Prevents monitor-based alerts from firing during this time (optional)

Once scheduled, the maintenance event appears on your status page as upcoming, and activates automatically at the configured start time.

Updating Maintenance Events

You can edit or cancel the event at any time before it begins. While it is active, you can:

  • Post real-time updates to communicate progress
  • Adjust the end time if work is extended or completed early
  • Change severity level or affected entities
  • Resolve the maintenance manually if needed

Subscribers (if enabled) will receive notifications for any major updates or status changes.

Linking Incidents (Optional)

If an issue occurs during maintenance, you can link an incident to the active maintenance event. This helps distinguish between expected degradation and unexpected problems.

  • Linked incidents will be visible in the status event detail view
  • You can still escalate, assign roles, and respond to the incident independently

Automation (Optional)

You can configure Automations to create or modify maintenance events based on internal signals. For example:

  • Schedule maintenance automatically from a calendar integration
  • Trigger a status event when an internal system schedules a deployment

These workflows are optional and customizable using Upstat’s automation builder.

Summary

  • Maintenance events are scheduled status page events
  • You control start time, message, and impact level
  • Catalog entities and linked incidents add helpful context
  • Alerts can be suppressed during the window to avoid unnecessary noise
  • Subscribers can be notified automatically
