Notification Routing
Configure rules to send the right alerts to the right people at the right time.
Routing Options
Notifications can be routed based on several factors:
By Severity
- P1 alerts might go to SMS and Slack
- P3 alerts might only go to email
- Configure per your team’s needs
By Time
- Business hours: Send to team channels
- After hours: Only notify on-call
- Weekends: Different routing rules
By Recipient
- Service owners: Direct notifications
- Managers: Only escalations
- Teams: Channel notifications
Configuration
Routing is configured at two levels:
User preferences - Each person controls their own notifications:
- Channel selection per severity
- Quiet hours settings
- Mute options
Project rules - Admins set team-wide defaults:
- Default severity routing
- Escalation paths
- Maintenance windows

Best Practices
Effective routing reduces noise while ensuring critical alerts get through:
- Start basic - Simple severity-based routing works for most teams
- Honor preferences - Respect quiet hours except for true emergencies
- Review regularly - Adjust rules based on what’s working
- Document decisions - Make sure the team knows the routing logic
