Status Pages Configuration Guide
Master every configuration option available in the status page editor to create professional, branded status pages that match your organization’s needs.
This guide provides detailed information about each configuration tab and option available when creating or editing status pages.
The Configuration Interface
The status page editor provides a split-screen workspace designed for efficient configuration:
Left Panel - Configuration Tabs
Four tabs organize all configuration options:
- Basics - Core page identity and perspective
- Branding - Visual customization and theming
- Content - Entity selection and filtering
- Settings - Advanced page settings
Right Panel - Live Preview
A real-time preview shows exactly how your status page appears to visitors. The preview updates instantly as you make changes, eliminating guesswork from the configuration process.
Preview controls include:
- Device Toggle - Switch between desktop and mobile views
- Status States - Preview how the page looks in Operational, Error, or Maintenance states
- Sample Content - Placeholder entities demonstrate layout and styling
Basics Tab
Define the fundamental identity and structure of your status page.
Title and Description
Title Field
Enter the main heading for your status page. This appears prominently at the top and in browser tabs.
- Keep it clear and recognizable
- Examples: “API Status”, “Platform Health”, “Service Status Dashboard”
Description Field
Provide context about what this status page monitors. This helps visitors understand the scope of services covered.
- Be specific about what’s included
- Examples: “Real-time status for all customer-facing APIs”, “Operational health of core platform services”
Perspective Selection
Choose how your status page organizes and presents information:
Traditional Perspective
“Display multiple services and systems on a single status page. Choose which entities to include and organize them in sections.”
Best for:
- Company-wide status dashboards
- Multi-service overviews
- Infrastructure status pages
- Customer-facing service health
Entity Based Perspective
“Create a dedicated status page that represents one specific entity from your catalog, showing all its relationships, dependencies, and operational context.”
Best for:
- Product-specific status pages
- Single service deep-dives
- Dependency visualizations
- Detailed operational context
Your perspective choice affects how the Content tab presents entity selection options.
Branding Tab
Customize the visual appearance to match your organization’s brand identity.
Theme Mode
Control how your status page adapts to user preferences:
- Light - Always display in light mode
- Dark - Always display in dark mode
- System - Automatically match the visitor’s system preference
Company Logo
Logo Upload
Upload your company logo to appear on the status page. Supported formats include PNG, JPG, and SVG.
Show Logo in Header
Toggle between Show/Hide to control logo visibility in the page header.
Color Customization
Brand Color
Set your primary brand color using the color picker or by entering a hex value. This color accents key interface elements.
Background Color
- Auto - Automatically selects an appropriate background based on theme
- Custom - Choose a specific background color for precise control
Text Color
- Auto - Automatically ensures readable text contrast
- Custom - Manually set text color to match brand guidelines
Layout Styles
Choose how status information is organized:
- Row - Traditional horizontal list layout
- Grid - Card-based grid for visual organization
- Timeline - Chronological event-based display

Corner Style
Adjust the visual personality of interface elements:
- Sharp (0px) - Clean, modern edges with no rounding
- Subtle (4px) - Slight rounding for softer appearance
- Rounded (8px) - Noticeable rounding for friendly feel
- Pill (16px) - Fully rounded for playful aesthetic
Typography
Font Family
Specify a custom font family to match your brand typography. Enter standard web font names or custom font stack definitions.
Status Colors
Default vs Custom
Choose whether to use standard status colors or define custom colors for different operational states:
- Operational (typically green)
- Degraded Performance (typically yellow)
- Partial Outage (typically orange)
- Major Outage (typically red)
- Maintenance (typically blue)
Footer Branding
“Powered by Upstat” Toggle
Control whether to show Upstat attribution in the footer (Show/Hide options).
Content Tab
Connect your status page to entities from your service catalog.
Entity Types
Filter Which Types to Show
If your catalog contains multiple entity types (Services, APIs, Databases, etc.), filter which types appear on this status page.
When no entity types exist, you’ll see “No entity types found in catalog” - configure entities in your service catalog first.
Select Entities
Choose Entities to Display
Browse and select specific entities from your catalog to include on the status page. The selection interface adapts based on your chosen perspective:
- Traditional - Multi-select entities to display together
- Entity Based - Select a single primary entity to focus on
Selected entities automatically appear in the live preview with their current operational status.
Settings Tab
Configure advanced options for access control, behavior, and integrations.
Common settings include:
- Public access configuration
- Custom domain setup
- Incident history display options
- Subscription and notification settings
- API access for external integrations
- Maintenance window scheduling
Live Preview Features
The preview panel provides powerful tools for validating your configuration:
Device Preview
Toggle between desktop and mobile views to ensure your status page looks professional on all devices. The mobile view shows responsive layout adjustments.
Status State Testing
Preview how your page appears in different operational states:
- Operational - All systems functioning normally
- Error - One or more services experiencing issues
- Maintenance - Planned maintenance mode active
Sample Content
When catalog entities aren’t available, sample entities like “Fake Entity 1”, “Fake Entity 2”, and “Fake Entity 3” demonstrate:
- How real entities will be displayed
- Status indicator positioning
- Layout and spacing
- Theme and branding application
The preview updates instantly as you modify any configuration, providing immediate visual feedback for every change.
